Origin
- Japan
- The roots of Yamanaka Shikki 山中漆器 trace back to the late Azuchi-Momoyama period (1573-1592). During this era, skilled woodworkers migrated from the mountainous regions of Echizen to Yamanaka Onsen in Ishikawa Prefecture, bringing along the traditional technique of Rokuro-biki mono 「轆轤挽き物」.
- As time progressed, they honed their craft, developing advanced woodworking techniques such as Kakeshiki-biki 「加飾挽き」 and Usubiki「薄挽き」 , which added intricate decorations and thin turning to their repertoire. This solidified Yamanaka's position as Japan's foremost producer of lathe-turned woodcrafts.
- And TSUGUMI's design seamlessly integrates modern elements while preserving the essence of tradition.
